I selected 150 youtube videos for this video installation. For the most part, they show hands of women tapping on various objects and surfaces with their nails. This phenomenon called ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) has not been confirmed by science. The ASMR effect is a tingling sensation in the head, triggered by certain sounds, that puts people into a state of relaxation or even trance. The installation consists of three iPads (with 5.5hours conten) that are connected to loudspeakers and a mixer. These videos, playing simultaneously, create a drumming sound space. „PEOPLE TAPPING ON DIFFERENT ITEMS“ deals with issues of consumerism and intimacy in a post-internet age.

PEOPLE TAPPING ON DIFFERENT ITEMS

PEOPLE TAPPING ON DIFFERENT ITEMS brings together 150 videos selected from YouTube, most of which show women’s hands tapping their fingernails on everyday objects and surfaces. These gestures belong to the online culture of ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), in which sounds and visual stimuli can evoke a tingling sensation and a feeling of deep relaxation.

The installation consists of three iPads connected to loudspeakers and a mixer. Played simultaneously, the videos transform individual acts of tapping into a layered, percussive soundscape.

Through the interplay of hands, objects and screens, the work explores consumerism and intimacy in the post-internet age. Everyday objects become instruments of sensory attention, while gestures recorded for an online audience enter a shared physical space.
